Acknowledging Ancestral Land
The lands described in "The Running God" are the traditional ancestral territories of many people groups. We offer special mention and heartfelt thanks to the Picurís Pueblo, including the Tribal and Warrior Council of 2025 and 2026, for their stewardship of this sacred land.
Why Acknowledgement Matters
This Land and People Acknowledgement is important because, while "The Running God" is a work of fiction, it touches upon the real, lived experiences of these beautiful people. These experiences are often more tragic than what could be captured within the pages of a novel. We are deeply grateful to our story guides and kind friends within the Picurís Pueblo for welcoming a stranger and patiently sharing their knowledge.
A Personal Connection
My journey with the Picurís Pueblo has been profoundly personal. Mr. Mike Simbolo and his mother, Marina Simbolo, have become dear friends. I was a stranger, and they made me feel welcome in their homes and at their tables among their family. Their generosity of spirit and wisdom has enriched my life and this story immensely. I have also been inexplicably welcomed by so many in the Picurís Pueblo, including at the table and family of Governor Craig Quanchello. The ancient Quanchello family is as talented in hospitality as they are in healing and academia. My mother and I were honored to be included among such beautiful people. The Picurís Pueblo has long known the Great Spirit.
This story (my own fictional invention) explores the reckless love of the Great Spirit's Son, who became brokenness to restore us all unto Himself...
